300th Post!

After only a few months of blogging I have already reached post number 300 and that is cause for celebration. To celebrate watch this funny clip from a recent episode of SNL and if you enjoy stuff like this check out my other blog http://frickinuseless.blogspot.com/ which I have been working on for a couple months now.

Naughty By Nature Reunites For New Album

It's turning into a good year for Naughty By Nature. In addition to being one of the five honorees on VH1's recent "Hip-Hop Honors" special, the hip-hop trio has reunited to record a new album set for first quarter 2009. The group last performed together in 2006 for a one-night engagement at B.B. King's in New York

"We've been talking about reuniting for about two years," group member Kier "DJ Kay Gee" Gist tells Billboard.com. "Then about three months ago, we decided to go ahead." Anthony "Treach" Criss and Vincent "Vinnie" Brown round out the trio.

The new album is tentatively titled "Anthem Inc." Plans are to release it independently, with the group currently shopping for distribution. A song the trio did in honor of its VH1 salute, "Hip-Hop Honors," is featured on the VH1 site.

As for what fans can expect musically, Kay Gee explains, "We're going to make universal party tracks with great hooks; street anthems, social and political anthems, anthems for the ladies. Nothing has changed from that standpoint. But we're not 19-20 anymore, so things will be a little different lyrically. We don't want to make a record that sounds like we're just trying to chase 15-year-olds. We do want to appeal to them but at the same time, we want the music to be natural and comfortable for us."

Despite the hiatus, Treach says the chemistry is still there. "It's like getting into a time machine going from the past to the future," he adds. "Vinnie and I have been touring. And both Kay Gee and I have been working on outside projects. So we didn't miss a beat when all three of us got back in the studio."

Hailing from East Orange, N.J., Naughty By Nature charted its first crossover hit in 1991 with "O.P.P." The track, which sampled the Jackson 5's "ABC," climbed to No. 5 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and No 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. Two years later, Naughty By Nature copped a No. 1 R&B hit with "Hip-Hop Hooray." The group's last major hit together was 1999's "Jamboree" featuring Zhane.

Kay Gee subsequently left the group in late 2000 to concentrate on his production company, Divine Mill. His credits include Zhane, Next and Jaheim. The last album Brown and Criss last recorded together was 2002's "IIcons."

T.I Breaks Own Record With Hot 100 Burst

As tipped here yesterday, T.I. breaks his own recently set record for the largest leap to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, as "Live Your Life" featuring Rihanna explodes 80-1.

The track sold 335,000 downloads this week in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, besting Mariah Carey's prior digital debut week high-water mark of 286,000 with "Touch My Body." Six weeks ago, T.I. jumped 71-1 with "Whatever You Like," which slips to No. 2 on the Hot 100 but remains atop Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for a third week.

Pink's "So What" drops 2-3 but continues to ring up major digital sales. The track shifted 165,000 copies this week and has sold 1.27 million in just seven weeks.

Rihanna's "Disturbia" holds at No. 5, while Cash Money newcomer Kevin Rudolf scores his first top 10 hit as "Let It Rock" featuring Lil Wayne jumps 15-5 after selling 148,000 downloads. Katy Perry's "Hot N Cold" remains No. 6 for a second week.

Debuting at No. 7 with new single "Keeps Getting' Better" is Christina Aguilera, thanks to digital sales of 144,000. This is the artist's first top 10 debut ever and first song in the top tier since "Ain't No Other Man" peaked at No. 6 in July 2006.

T-Pain's "Can't Believe It" featuring Lil Wayne drops 7-8, while M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes" nose-dives 5-9. Nickelback's "Gotta Be Somebody" debuts at No. 10 on download sales of 127,000, easily the band's best Hot 100 opening to date.

Other new entries this week include "American Idol" champion David Cook's "Light On" at No. 17 with 109,000 downloads, and the Killers' "Human" at No. 32 with 70,000.

Kenny Chesney jumps 2-1 on Hot Country Songs with "Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven," the 15th chart-topper of his career there. Billboard's rock charts are unchanged, with The Offspring's "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid" at No. 1 on Modern Rock for a third week and Metallica's "The Day That Never Comes" leading Mainstream Rock for a second.

"Weird Al" Yankovic - Whatever You Like

Brand new single available RIGHT NOW on iTunes! Weird Al parodies T.I.s #1 smash hit Whatever You Like.

Knight Rider, Terminator Are Given a Bit Extra Gas

On the heels of CBS' The Mentalist, which thus far is the TV season's biggest freshman hit, getting an order for a half-dozen additional scripts, two other new-ish series have received perhaps-significant votes of confidence.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, technically a second-year show but one still anxiously awaiting a back-nine order, has been given the go-ahead for two more scripts  — this in the wake of increasing ratings in its fifth week.

Knight Rider, meanwhile, has been given the green light for four more scripts. Of note, the NBC reboot has been trumping critical darling Pushing Daisies, one of its Wednesdays-at-8 rivals, in the Nielsens.

To date, the freshman series Fringe and 90210 have received full-season pick-ups.

Panic At The Disco 'Writing Non-Stop' On Tour

After taking two-and-a-half years between its first two albums, Panic at the Disco is planning a quicker turnaround for its third -- like by spring or early summer of 2009, according to frontman Brendon Urie.

Echoing guitarist Ryan Ross' previous comments that the Las Vegas quartet continued writing new material even after wrapping March's "Pretty. Odd.," Urie tells Billboard.com that there are "between 15 and 18 main ideas for songs we want to get started. We've been writing non-stop since we finished recording. I guess we kind of lost our anxiety of writing on tour. We never used to do that. We used to think we needed an environment to sit down and create, but we realized all we need is a few instruments and the four of us, just throwing ideas together."

Urie says the new music hews more toward the last album's classic rock-influenced sound than the epic pop of 2005's platinum "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out." "With 'Pretty. Odd.' we were listening to some bands that maybe we had heard from our parents but never discovered for ourselves," Urie says. "There's so much music we haven't discovered from 30 years ago or more. We're still trying to pick up on that stuff."

Urie adds that his most recent discovery has been the Kinks, particularly their "Village Green Preservation Society" album.

Panic is currently headlining the Rock Band Live Tour, which runs through mid-November, and will perform at the Voodoo Music Experience festival on Oct. 26. Urie, meanwhile, is among the guests on Fall Out Boy's upcoming album, "Folie a Deux," which is due Nov. 4 via Island

"It was a lot of fun," Urie reports. "I went into the studio and they showed me four or five of the tracks and I was really impressed with how they were recording them and the styles they had. I was able to throw some of my own little ideas into the piano parts and vocal things. I just hung out there for the afternoon and we had a lot of fun."

The-Dream Spreads The 'Love' On New Album

Barely a year out from the release of his Def Jam artist debut, the-Dream returns Dec. 16 with his sophomore set, "Love vs. Money." "In the beginning I was just having fun. I didn't want people thinking too hard, I just wanted them to gravitate toward my lyrics," the-Dream tells Billboard.com. "But this time my vocals are different. I've definitely grown in my singing."

Although a first single hasn't been selected yet, some of the-Dream's favorite cuts include the '60s-inspired "You Aint Sh*t"; "Fancy," about a girl who wants to live the glamorous life; rhythmic/pop track "Right Side of My Brain"; "Make Love to Me," which he describes as a "good ol' baby-making record"; and "Kelly's 12 Play," inspired by R. Kelly's debut album. Mariah Carey guests on "My Love."

An encore to the heartbreak track "Nikki" from the first album will also appear on the set. The Dream says his third project will most likely include a song in the vein of "Nikki" as well, as he hopes to release a full album of the Nikki chronicles at some point.

The-Dream re-teamed with producer LOS Da Maestro, who helmed most of the tracks on "Love/Hate," and partner Tricky Stewart, who produced most of the tracks on the forthcoming set, while tapping on other mix-masters like Lil Jon. The latter produced a track titled "Booty."

"L.A. Reid has lots of problems on his desk; he's definitely having a hard time choosing [a single]," says the-Dream. "It's such a great album that he's considering releasing two singles -- one for pop and one for R&B."

But if the-Dream had his way, Def Jam would wait until "around Valentine's Day" to release "Love vs. Money." The reason is not only a sultry sound that fits the lovers' holiday, but also because the group Electric Red, signed to his joint venture with Def Jam, Radio Killa Records, is slated to release its album "Electric Love" around the same time.

"I want to use some of my resources to get them where they are supposed to be," he says, "because their album is crazy."

In addition to Electric Red, the-Dream is slated to work in the weeks and months to come with J. Holiday (for whom he wrote hit single "Bed"), Mario, Jamie Foxx and Usher.

And while details were limited, the-Dream is also hoping to try his hand at reality TV, and is currently in talks with MTV for a show in which he scouts for talent.

Seth Rogen Producing Cancer Comedy?

Mandate Pictures has picked up I'm With Cancer, a comedic autobiographical spec script written by Will Reiser that Seth Rogen will produce with his writing-producing partner Evan Goldberg and Ben Karlin ("The Daily Show With Jon Stewart").

Rogen also will have a supporting role in the film.

"Cancer" is Reiser's account of his struggle to beat cancer, with the story centering on a 25-year-old who finds out he has the disease.

The film reteams Rogen and Goldberg with Mandate, for whom they are writing and producing the end-of-the-world comedy Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse. The duo are working on Sony's The Green Hornet.

Bana, Gray Team for Heist Drama Armored

Millennium Films is developing a remake of 2004 French heist drama Le Convoyeur, and the studio is negotiating with Eric Bana to star and F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job) to direct, says Variety.

Written by David Ayer and Andrew Kevin Walker, the drama has been retitled Armored and relocated to Michigan. The story follows a man who takes a job for an armored car company and ingratiates himself with his co-workers, who trust him enough to make him part of their heist plans. Unbeknownst to his colleagues, the man had his own motives for taking the job.

The film likely will be retitled because of an upcoming Screen Gems drama that bears the same title.

Armored is being produced by Michaels Goldwyn partners Lorne Michaels and John Goldwyn, Emmett/Furla's Randall Emmett, Avi Lerner and Michael Aguilar.

V is Returning to TV!

ABC is developing a new adaptation of "V," the 1980s miniseries about alien lizards visiting Earth, reports Variety.

"V" spawned a second miniseries and TV spin-off — written by "The 4400" co-creator/executive producer Scott Peters.

Warner Bros. TV, which was behind the original, is once again producing the project, which was sold as a spec script to ABC.

Peters is set to executive produce, along with HDFilms principal Jace Hall.

The new "V" will center on Erica Evans, a Homeland Security agent with an aimless son who's got problems. When the aliens arrive, her son gloms on to them — causing tension within the family. As in the original "V," several storylines will unfold simultaneously.

As in the '80s version, the show will open with an enormous army of spaceships hovering over the world's major cities. The visitors say they've come to help Earth, but their motives are nefarious.

‘Iron Man’ Writers Want Hulk To Be ‘The Avengers’ Villain

Everything in the Marvel Film Universe is leading to the eventual superhero tag team-up, “The Avengers,” with Iron Man, Ant-Man, Thor, and Captain America all fighting side-by-side. What possible villain could compete with that?

“The Incredible Hulk” director Louis Leterrier told MTV News this past June that he didn’t think any villain could, and suggested that they use a hero instead: his.

“Iron Man” writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, who themselves may be writing another Marvel movie in the near future, couldn’t agree more, they told MTV News, insisting that everything is building towards making The Hulk the villain in the eagerly anticipated 2011 movie.

“I hope ‘The Avengers’ embraces that,” Fergus said of having the Hulk as misunderstood baddie. “You don’t want like 10 super-badass good guys fighting together. Where’s the fun in that? Let’s break it off a little. Friends or colleagues who become enemies is always an interesting thing because you know it’s based on love and friendship and that’s always the worst thing to have turn bad — is someone you actually care about and someone you actually believe in.”

Hulk, of course, has fought nearly every Marvel hero at some point in the comics, and because he already had his own movie, wouldn’t need to be set-up in the new one. In fact, all the hard work is already done.

“I left the door open for whoever’s going to direct ‘The Avengers’ with our last shot. Edward [Norton] and I, we consciously decided to make the last shot of the movie when he opens his eyes and he smirks at the camera,” Leterrier told us. “Is he enjoying it? Is he malicious? That’s what’s great about Edward. You don’t know if he’s a good guy or bad guy. He’s always on this edge and we’ve been sort of surfing that edge, that very thin edge during the entire movie.”

Recall, also that Downey Jr. as Tony Stark appears to General Ross at the very end of “Hulk,” a scene Leterrier called the first scene of “The Avengers.”

Sign Stark and them up for more, Fergus said.

“I personally like when good-guy characters have to fight each other,” he said. “Good guys going against good guys who both believe in an issue is way more interesting than a villain clearly into evil and I like when former friends become committed enemies.”

USA's Psych, Burn Notice Back for More Intrigue

Espionage and quirky crime-solving will continue for another season on USA

The net announced Thursday that it's renewing Burn Notice for a fourth season and Psych for a third. Both series were summer anchors for the net, which topped basic cable ratings in the warmer months.

Burn Notice features Jeffrey Donovan as a spy whose cover was blown, and finds himself marooned in Miami — not a bad place, it turns out, to set up camp, what with all the lovely ladies and the spy gigs on the side. Psych, meanwhile, stars James Roday and Dule Hill as a pair of pals who claim that Roday's character's investigative skills stem from psychic powers. They crack as many jokes, however, as cases.

Still left hanging is Monk, which would head into its eigth season, if given the pickup. "We'd love to see a season eight of Monk," said Jeff Wachtel, exec VP of original programming for the network. "We're talking right now, and we'll make an announcement when the time is right."

Paul Blart: Mall Cop (2009) Trailer

For the ten remaining people who still think Kevin James is funny, we bring you the trailer for his new comedy Paul Blart: Mall Cop. Basically, it’s a comic version of Die Hard in a Mall (Kevin Smith should sue) meets the silliness of the Home Alone sequels. James plays a disrespected segway-riding mall security officer who attempts to thwart a criminal’s plan to rob the entire mall overnight.

Mall Cop hits theaters on January 19th 2009.

Casting Rumor: Ryan Gosling as The Green Lantern?

Our friends at Latino Review are reporting a rumor that Warner Bros wants Ryan Gosling to play Hal Jordan aka The Green Lantern in the upcoming DC comic book adaptation. The comic book book series never grabbed me, so I don’t know much about the Lantern. But one thing I am sure of is that Gosling is a great talent. Nominated for an Academy Award in 2007 for his performance in Half Nelson, Gosling also received numerous critic association awards for his performance in Lars and The Real Girl. The actor is in the same age range as Jordan is in the latest screenplay draft. Last week it was reported that Lantern is being fast tracked for a Spring 2009 start date.

The Green Lantern character was created by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell in All-American Comics #16, published in July 1940. The Green Lantern possesses a power ring that gives him control over the physical world as long as the wielder has sufficient willpower and strength to wield it. Hal Jordan is the second and probably most famous character to bear the title.

Josh Brolin is Jonah Hex?

Hollywood Elsewhere reports that Josh Brolin, who can be seen in next week's W., has signed on to star in Warner Bros. Pictures' Jonah Hex. This has yet to be confirmed by the studio, so stay tuned.

From Crank writers/directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the film is based on the DC Comics title in which Hex, known for having the right side of his face disfigured and wearing a Confederate army uniform, was a rough-and-tumble gunslinger and part-time bounty hunter whose adventures always ended in blood.

"Jonah Hex," created by by writer John Albano and artist Tony DeZuniga, first appeared in the early 1970s in the issues of "All-Star Western" before graduating to his own series in 1977 that ran for about 10 years. A new series was launched in 2005. The character also had a run in the 1990s that combined the Western genre with supernatural elements.

Foxx to Join Butler in Law Abiding Citizen

Jamie Foxx is in final negotiations to star opposite Gerard Butler in Law Abiding Citizen, a psychological thriller that Frank Darabont is directing for the Film Department, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Written by Kurt Wimmer and Darabont, the script follows a successful assistant D.A. (Butler) who finds himself at the center of a vigilante plot hatched by a traumatized victim of the legal system (Foxx). Foxx's character is devastated to learn that, because of a plea bargain, one of his wife and daughter's murderers will be set free. So he unleashes revenge on the killers and those who made the deal.

Butler and his Evil Twin partner Alan Siegel are producing along with Warp Films' Lucas Foster. Film Department's Mark Gill also is producing.

Executive producing are Film Department's Robert Katz and Neil Sacker.

ABC Family Bringing 10 Things to the Small Screen

ABC Family is looking for more laughs, picking up two comedy pilots, including one based on the 1999 teen flick, 10 Things I Hate About You.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gil Junger, the director of the film 10 Things — which introduced audiences to the late Heath Ledger — has signed on to direct the pilot. The series won't deviate too much from the feature, which itself was based on William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, following two polar-opposite sisters in high school.

Greek's Carter Covington will write and executive produce the single-camera show.

The network also greenlit Ruby and the Rockits, headlined by Spy Kids' Alexa Vega as Ruby. The multi-camera series revolves around an ex-teen idol (Patrick Cassidy) trying to live a normal life until his brother and former band member (David Cassidy) shows up unexpectedly with a teenage daughter.

The series comes courtesy of one-time teen idol, Shaun Cassidy, who will write with Ed Yeager. Ted Wass is tapped to direct.

Both comedies are scheduled to go into production this fall in L.A.

Cobra Starship Still Dancing On Third Album

Cobra Starship may be on a headlining tour to promote its sophomore set, 2007's "Viva La Cobra!," but the New York quintet is already hard at work on album number three.

Guitarist Ryland Blackington tells Billboard.com that between the group's summer shows and the its current jaunt, Cobra Starship hit the studio in its native Manhattan for three weeks of recording with producers S*A*M & SLUGGO, who worked on the band's 2006 debut "While the City Sleeps, We Rule the Streets." "We wrote (the album) on Warped Tour, and we got home from Japan and the next day we were in the studio," Blackington reports. The group left the studio on Sunday (Oct. 5) in order to tour but, according to Blackington, "got a lot done."

"We did this one very much from the ground up," says the guitarist, who expects the group to record 15 or 16 songs and put 11 on the final track list. "It's still very dancey but also very poppy. We're using a lot of synthesizers and a lot of different electronic elements we haven't used before."

The work that has been done is mostly instrumental tracks, according to Blackington. Cobra Starship frontman Gabe Saporta, he says, "blew out his voice on Warped Tour, just from singing every day so early. So we're holding off on some of the vocal stuff. He's sounding great now; he just needed to rest for the beginning of this tour, so we had to strategize."

Cobra Starship will be on the road until Nov. 30 in North America, then has a British tour in late January and early February.

M. Night Shyamalan Further Ponders ‘Unbreakable’ Sequel

As reported last month, recently we spoke to “Unbreakable” writer/director M. Night Shyamalan and one of the stars of the film, Samuel L. Jackson, about the possibility of a sequel to their years-before-its-time superhero movie. Well, it seems as if that sequel talk has become a popular topic of conversation with Shyamalan, as he offered up a few more thoughts about the notion of “Unbreakable 2” during a conference call regarding this week’s release of “The Happening.”

“I want to write it right now, but I want to write it for the right reasons,” Shyamalan told reporters. “I want a story to pop into my head that is organic and expressive of who I am. You know, these are all kind of journals of where I am emotionally, so it’s kind of hard. I’m kind of trying to go back to the journal that existed in 1999 for me. But I know me: As soon as I give up on it is when the idea will come to me.”

While the interview doesn’t offer up any more certainty that we’ll see an “Unbreakable” sequel any time soon, it’s interesting to note that the film — which received a mixed reception when it debuted in 2000 — has developed a wider following now that the boom in comics-based movies is upon us. Heck, Jackson has already told MTV News that he’d be up for a sequel and even described a potential storyline the sequel would follow.

Dominic Monaghan and Freddy Rodriguez Cast In Fortuna

Move over Middle East-based War films, it seems like a wave of economic crisis movies and television shows are on the way. Last week we wrote about an upcoming HBO series called Americatown, which follows groups of Americans who immigrate to other countries in a future where the United States has collapsed. Today it was announced that Dominic Monaghan (Lost) and Freddy Rodriguez (Six Feet Under) have been cast in a horror thriller which sounds a bit like The Island meets Children of Men.

Set in the year 2100, where “a collapsed economy and climate crises have eliminated the middle class” leaving a divide between the really rich and extremely poor. To avoid a revolt from the masses, the rich elite create a game called Fortuna, where one out of every thousand players will win a chance to join the upper class. Contestants are never seen from again, which of course is part of a hidden sinister goal to “reduce poverty” by 30% over 50 years.

Swiss director Barthelemy Grossmann (13 m2) wrote the script, will helm the project, and also star alongside Monaghan and Rodriguez as desperate men who play the game. The film will shoot for six weeks starting on November 10th in Bulgaria.

Forest Whitaker is in a Wonderful World

Forest Whitaker will direct and star in Louis Armstrong biopic What a Wonderful World for Paris-based Legende, the company behind La Vie en rose.

Variety says Legende's Alain Goldman is producing alongside Edward R. Pressman.

Ron Bass, who will write the original script, is executive producing with Oscar Cohen, executive of the Armstrong estate and the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation.

The film will kick-off during the musician's impoverished early years in New Orleans and primarily chronicle his career as a trumpet virtuoso and improvisational singer.

What a Wonderful World will begin shooting in the summer in Louisiana.

David Cronenberg Directing The Matarese Circle

David Cronenberg is in negotiations to direct political thriller The Matarese Circle for MGM, reports Variety.

Denzel Washington is attached to star in the film, which is based on a Robert Ludlum novel.

Set against the backdrop of the Cold War, the book revolves around two men — one American, one Soviet — who must cooperate in order to foil a sinister plot to topple the world's governments.

Writing partners Michael Brandt and Derek Haas (3:10 to Yuma) wrote the adaptation.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing alongside Nick Wechsler and Jeffrey Weiner.

MGM is eyeing a spring start date.

FX Revs Up Second Season of Sons of Anarchy

FX has decided to keep the motor of its new bad-boy biker drama Sons of Anarchy running for a second season.

The Fox 21- and FX-produced series received a 13-episode second season order Monday after only the first five episodes of its current run. During those five weeks, the newbie drama has averaged 5.4 million viewers weekly and 3.5 million adults 18-49, making it FX's most successful series since Rescue Me.

The show's success is no doubt a relief to the FX execs who are soon bidding adieu to the The Shield, the series that put the network's original programming on the map. “It’s incredibly gratifying to everyone at FX [that The Shield's] audience has embraced Sons of Anarchy and made it a success," John Landgraf, president and general Manager of FX Networks, said in a statement.

The remaining eight episodes of Son of Anarchy's first season air each Wednesday night at 10 pm/ET until Nov. 26.

My Boys Will Return for Third Season

My Boys will be back in town. The critically acclaimed sitcom has been picked up for a third season by TBS.

The series stars Jordana Spiro as PJ Franklin, a 20-something sportswriter looking for love in Chicago

PJ spends her days covering sports for a major Chicago newspaper and her nights hanging out with friends playing poker or sharing drinks at their favorite hangout, Crowley's.

"This past summer, My Boys continued to catch on with audiences and critics," said Michael Wright, senior vice president of the Content Creation Group for TBS. "It's that truly rare television combination of a talented cast with great chemistry, extremely smart and funny writing and outstanding production."

Columbus Short Says Lethal Weapon 5 on the Fast Track

Back in August it was reported that Shane Black had handed in a detailed treatment to Joel Silver for a Lethal Weapon 5, which he hopes to direct. When Black signed on to helm Cold Warrior for Universal, we assumed that the project fell into development hell. Not so, turned out that the sequel was just waiting on Mel Gibson’s approval.

Now IGN has talked with Columbus Short, who was at one point rumored to be involved with the project. Short not only confirmed that is he up for a role, but claims the film is being fast tracked into production by Warner Bros. No word on if Gibson has seen Black’s treatment or given his thumbs up to go ahead, but it certainly sounds like it. Rumor has it that Short would play Murtaugh’s son.

The Die Hard series may have overshadowed the Lethal Weapon franchise for some filmgoers, but the original Donner films still stand up to the test of time. And with Black back for a new take on the series, which will supposedly involve the addition/introduction of a new generation of cops and Riggs and Murtaugh coming out of retirement for one last case, I can’t see what’s not to be excited about.

Get Smart 2

It should be no surprise that Warner Bros is developing a Get Smart sequel, the film was pretty much set-up for franchise opportunities. The original film made over $226 million worldwide, which warrants sequel consideration. Steve Carell will return as Maxwell Smart. No word on if Anne Hathaway will return as Agent 99, although I don’t see any reason why she wouldn’t return for a second film. It was also announced in today’s Variety that Carell signed a three-year first-look deal with Warner Bros, but that is apparently unrelated (sure…).

I thought the 2008 film adaptation was too action heavy, especially considering the original Mel Brooks television series was much more comedically-focused. With a sequel I also hope they return to using a ridiculous James Bond-style villain instead of the unfunny ridiculous plot [spoiler warning] to kill the president with music (As ridiculous as I believed it to be at the time, I was even more shocked to see the same climax used in a non-comedic action film later this year). That said, I’m still hopeful about a sequel.

Rumor: Paul Andrew Williams to Direct 28 Months Later?

When we spoke to director Danny Boyle last month in Toronto, he seemed optimistic about the possibility of another sequel to 28 Days Later. But at the same time I got the feeling that not much had progressed since I last talked to him during the press tour for Sunshine. It was last year in San Francisco when Boyle revealed to /Film that he had an idea for 28 Months Later, and that it would be set in Russia

Arrow in the Head is reporting a rumor coming out of the Sitges Film Festival, that Paul Andrew Williams, the UK-based director of The Cottage, has signed on to helm the third film. Unfortunately, this has not yet been confirmed. I’m not really sure how I feel about a third film without Boyle at the helm. I was one of the vocal few who hated 28 Weeks Later, but I’m sure the idea of global zombie films will always sound appealing to me, at least in the conceptual phase.

HBO Renews Entourage

HBO has picked up "Entourage" for a sixth season, reports Variety. Production on the new season will begin early next year for a summer debut.

The fifth season of the half-hour comedy premiered in September.

Michael Lombardo, HBO president of programming group and West Coast operations, called "Entourage" a "smart, sharp comedy series that continues to evolve."

The series, created and executive produced by Doug Ellin, stars Adrian Grenier as once-hot actor Vincent Chase, as well as Jeremy Piven, Kevin Connolly, Kevin Dillon and Jerry Ferrara. Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson also executive produce.

Kanye: New Album Coming Nov. 25

Kanye West made a surprise appearance at rapper T.I.'s MySpace-sponsored show in Los Angeles on Friday and announced his upcoming Def Jam album, "808s and Heartbreak," will arrive Nov. 25. It had been expected Dec. 16.

"We just finished the album. I just got back from Hawaii earlier today," he told the audience before breaking into a track titled "Heartless," which he confirmed is the set's second single. First single "Love Lockdown" has sold 402,000 digital downloads in just two weeks of release, according to Nielsen Soundscan, and debuted at a career-best No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

As previously reported, the original release date for "Heartbreak" would have put West a week behind 50 Cent's "Before I Self Destruct," a near-repeat of the 2007 battle between the two rappers.

Last September, both men released new albums on the Sept. 11, with West's "Graduation" outselling 50's "Curtis" 957,000 to 691,000 in its debut week. "Graduation" has since sold 2.18 million copies in the United States.

Weird Al Goes Digital With T.I. Cover

For the first time in his nearly three-decade career, comedy maestro "Weird Al" Yankovic is releasing his parody of a current No. 1 single -- evidently just days after he thought of it.

Yankovic's version of "Whatever You Like," a riff on the T.I. track of the same name, will be available for download tomorrow (Oct. 7) on iTunes, where it will be an exclusive for two weeks before being released on other digital download services.

In a post on his MySpace blog, Yankovic indicates "Whatever You Like" may be the first in a series of future, more timely digital releases.

"One of the hardest things I've had to deal with in my career is keeping my material topical even though I only release albums every three or four years," Yankovic writes. "Now, with the advent and popularity of digital distribution, I don't have to wait around while my songs get old and dated -- I can get them out on the Internet almost immediately. It kind of boggles my mind -- I thought of the idea for this new song a week ago, and next week it's getting released!"

Yankovic has been exploring the digital route for some time, he said. "I'd kind of written off the chance of ever having another hit single, since record labels weren't really releasing commercial ones," Yankovic told Billboard in 2006. "As much as people are griping about the Internet taking sales away from artists, it's been a huge promotional tool for me."

Yankovic's 2006 album "Straight Outta Lynwood" scored the artist his biggest chart success of his career. "Lynwood" debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard 200, his first top 10 album ever. Meanwhile, the Chamillionaire parody "White and Nerdy," reached No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100, besting his previous high of No. 12 with "Eat It" in 1984, and went on to spend 22 weeks on the Hot Digital Songs chart.

DreamWorks' Eagle Eye, starring Shia LaBeouf, Michelle Monaghan, Rosario Dawson and Michael Chiklis, dropped to second place with $17.7 million in its second weekend, a loss of just 39.3% in ticket sales. The D.J. Caruso thriller has reached $54.6 million and cost about $80 million to make.

Screen Gems' Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, with Michael Cera, Kat Dennings, Ari Graynor and Jay Baruchel, debuted in the third spot with $12 million from 2,421 theaters. The romantic comedy averaged $4,957 per location.

Warner Bros. Pictures' Nights in Rodanthe dropped two spots to fourth and added $7.4 million. Starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane, the romantic drama has earned $25.1 million in two weeks.

The Ed Harris-directed Appaloosa expanded into 1,045 theaters and rounded out the top five with $5 million. After three weeks, the western has collected $5.6 million. It stars Viggo Mortensen, Harris, RenĂ©e Zellweger, Jeremy Irons, Timothy Spall and Lance Henriksen.

Other newcomers included David Zucker's An American Carol, which made $3.8 million in 1,639 theaters. Also, Anne Hathaway-starrer Rachel Getting Married saw a solid $303,000 from nine theaters. The Jonathan Demme-directed comedy averaged $33,667 per site.

Three other pics disappointed out of the gate. Universal's Flash of Genius, starring Greg Kinnear, made just $2.3 million from 1,098 theaters, helmer Fernando Meirelles' Blindness took in $2 million from 1,690, while MGM's How to Lose Friends & Alienate People, starring Simon Pegg, Kirsten Dunst and Megan Fox, received only $1.4 million from 1,750 theaters.
